Starting order

To ensure a smooth and safe start, standby blocks will be set at the start according to the time declared by the entrant at the time of application. Records (time, event name, year) may be checked by the Kobe Marathon Committee and should therefore be declared accurately.

  • You may be required to submit record certificates if necessary.
  • False declarations will not be recognized.
Competition Rules The competition rules are in accordance with the 2020 regulations of World Athletics (WA), the Japan Association of Athletics Federations and those of this event.
Because this is a silver label race certified by WA, WA Label Road Race regulations also apply. Doping tests will be carried out under WA regulations.
Qualifications

Athletes born on or before April 1, 2002

  • Runners (including those from Japan and abroad recommended by the organizers) should be capable of completing the race within 6 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Clothing or fancy dress that violates public order or morals or is inappropriate for a sports event will not be allowed.
  • Above event is limited to non-wheelchair users. Disabled entrants (those holding a disability card) who cannot run solo are permitted one accompanying runner (but not a seeing eye dog).

Entries to the Kobe Marathon in English, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified) and Korean should use the website JTB Sports Station, owned and operated by JTB Western Japan Corp.

神戸マラソンにおける英語、中国語(繁体字、簡体字)、韓国語でのエントリーは、日本国内の<外国籍の方>、および海外在住の<外国籍の方あるいは日本国籍の方>専用のエントリーとなります。

This site is not for Japanese nationals residing in Japan. Any entry attempted by a Japanese national residing in Japan on this site will be invalid. Please note that if payment has been made for a Japanese national residing in Japan, no refund can be provided. Japanese nationals residing in Japan are asked to use the Kobe Marathon Japanese-language entry site (RUNNET).

  1. Time limits are based on the first signal gun time.
  2. Cut-off times are set at each checkpoint due to the limited duration of traffic control, security, and event operation. The cut-off times will be announced when the wave start details are decided. Those entrants who reach checkpoints after time limits should stop the race. Checkpoints may be set up at any time during the race.
  3. Charity proceeds will be utilized by the Kobe Marathon Friendship Bank
  • Entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Entry will be through the JTB Sports Station site, and will be confirmed upon confirmation of payment of the entry fee. Please note that no refund can be made once payment procedure has been completed. (An exception will be made for foreign nationals in Japan who miss out on selection in the lottery.)
  • Please check your input carefully as no changes to name or runner information can be accepted after entry is confirmed. An exception will be made for reasonable cause such as marriage or change of address.
  • Please note that once entry is confirmed, changes of entrants cannot be permitted.
Entry Application
  1. How to apply
    Please apply online at http://kobe-marathon.net/2020/english/ But first, you must register as a member at the JTB Sports Station. You must agree to the terms of use of the JTB Sports Station membership and complete membership registration there before you can enter.
  2. Period
    From 12:00 p.m. April 2 (Thursday) to 11:59 p.m. July 31, 2020 (Friday) (*Japan Standard Time)
    First-come, first-served basis
  3. Entry fee payment
    After completing your application at the JTB Sports Station site, you must confirm that entry fee payment has been completed according to the instructions.
    Even if you have completed your application, if payment of the entry fee is not received by the designated due date, your participation will not be confirmed and your application will be invalidated.
  4. Determining who will participate
    Entry will be confirmed upon completion of payment of the entry fee.
    Please note that entry applications will be closed when the maximum allowable number of entrants is reached.
  5. Cautions
    Disabled applicants (holders of disability cards) should complete the required parts of the application.

    • Note that check-in will be closed on the actual marathon day (November 15). Entrants may not check in outside the times stated above.
    • Escort runners should also check in at the above times.
    • At the time of check-in, the entrant's identity will be confirmed (the entrant must present in person).
    • Check-in will be refused if the entrant fails to show identification documents.
    • Those with disabilities must bring their disability card.
Awards
  1. Overall:
    Awards will be presented to the top 8 men and the top 8 women runners.
  2. Kobe Marathon Japan Top 8:
    Top 8 men and top 8 women runners resident in Japan (nationality irrelevant).
  3. By Age Group:
    Awards will be presented to the top 8 men and the top 8 women runners for each five-year age group.

    Excluding the Overall and Kobe Marathon Japan Top 8 award recipients

  4. Kobe Marathon Consecutive Winner:
    Awards will be presented to the runners who have received an award for 3 consecutive years since Kobe Marathon 2018.

    Awards can be from any of the award categories “Overall,” “Kobe Marathon Japan Top 8” and “By Age Group.”

  5. Kobe Marathon last spurt challenge:
    Awards will be presented to the man and woman whose record of 7.195km from 35km point to the finish point is the fastest among Japan top 8 runners in Kobe Marathon 2020.

    Certificates will be mailed at a later date.

Certificate of Completion Those who finish will be issued with a Certificate of Completion.
  • In addition to the marathon, 25km and 30km records are also recognized. However, this applies only to those who finish.
Doping Control Doping testing will be conducted in accordance with the anti-doping regulations of WA and Japan Anti-Doping Agency. The organizers will take urine and/or blood for this testing before (or after) the race. Qualified personnel will conduct the tests according to instructions. Non JAAF-registered athletes must also comply with this regulation. Please bring a copy of your passport with a clear facial photo. A copy of your passport will be required if you are requested to take the doping test.
TUE Applications Runners who must use, for the treatment of an illness, a prohibited substance or method listed under the Prohibited List International Standard must apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).

To all minor athletes who will be participating in the Kobe Marathon

Acquisition of doping testing consent form from parents of athletes who are minors

In accordance with a revision to WADA, the international standards and JADA, effective January 1, 2015, when a minor athlete (under 20 years old) participates in a competition it is necessary to obtain a signed consent form for doping control testing from the athlete’s parental authorities.

  1. Minors participating in this race must carefully read the consent form, bring the original signed and stamped copy to the race and carry it with them. The consent form can also be downloaded from:

  2. If a minor athlete is selected for a doping control test, the original form will be submitted to the testing laboratory by the NFR (national federation representative). It is only necessary to submit an original consent form once as a minor. If an athlete is selected for a doping control test for a second time as a minor after having previously submitted a consent form, inform the NFR that an original form has already been submitted. If a doping control test is performed at the race venue without submission of an original consent form, an original consent form must be submitted to the JAAF office within 7 days after the testing.
Miscellaneous
  1. Entry fees will not be refunded in the event the Kobe Marathon is cancelled or reduced in scope due to reasons beyond the control of the organizers (some type of warning, earthquake, wind or flood damage, snowfall, incident, accident, disease, etc.).
  2. Participants should take every consideration in respect of their physical condition, including training sufficiently for the event and undergoing prior medical checkups.
  3. Any personal baggage entrusted by runners to the organizers will be transported by the organizers from the start to the finish point.
  4. The organizers take no responsibility for any delays due to public transportation or road conditions on the day of the event.
  5. It is not permitted to wear or display any advertising such as designs or trademarks denoting company or product names, etc., at the venue (including on the course).
  6. Drones or similar unmanned aerial vehicles other than those used by the organizers may not be taken into, operated, or flown at the event.
  7. Consignment sales of photos, etc., may be permitted with the approval of the organizers.
  8. This is an Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbotWMM) (third) Wanda Age Group World Rankings event.
  9. Entry fee and other receipts
    For credit card payments: No receipts will be issued. Please use the statement or invoice issued by your credit card company.
  10. This event shall be implemented in compliance with all the relevant laws and regulations of Japan.
  11. For any event-related matters not mentioned above, please follow the organizers’ instructions.
Personal Information The organizers acknowledge the importance of personal information and will comply with laws and regulations relating to the protection of personal information, General Date Protection Regulation; GDPR and will handle personal information based on the organizers’ personal information protection policy.
This information will be used for such purposes as drawings, entry information, notices of records achieved, notification of related information, provision of services from Kobe Marathon sponsors, supporters, co-organizers and related organizations, first-aid treatment and coordination with medical institutions and for the announcement of records (including rankings) with the aim of improving service to entrants in this event.
Within the scope of the operation of this event, personal information may also be provided to related business entities (including World Marathon Majors LLC, located in the United States and operating the Abbott World Marathon Majors, and the Tokyo Marathon Foundation).
  • Note that the organizers or the Kobe Marathon Runner Call Center may use your personal information to contact you and confirm information related to your application.
Participation Prizes Participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt as a prize for participating. Please enter a size, referring to the size chart below.

  • Men may not select a woman’s T-shirt and women may not select a man’s T-shirt.
